Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice UE (R-rated)

This page discusses the film Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice – Ultimate Edition which is an R-rated film. This content is therefore intended for adult consumption.

When I use the term “BvS” I’m referring  to the 3:01 runtime Ultimate Edition.

The case for why Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is a cinematic masterpiece.

Here is the outline for my argument that BvS is a generally misapprehended and brilliant film. The argument is founded on five basic premises:

  • BvS is a cinematographic masterwork.
  • BvS features an outstanding musical score.
  • BvS narrative structure at least seems to map out Joseph Campbell’s ‘the hero’s journey’ model in a subtle and thought-provoking way.
  • Inspired by Watchmen, BvS deconstructs the superhero genre–a fact that most critics either were oblivious towards, failed to examine with an open mind, or found intolerable on general principles.
  • As a deconstruction BvS hints at the brutal impact of postmodernism upon the modernism that lies at the core of traditional superhero mythology.
